Currency Basket

The term refers to a group of currencies gathered into a basket against which an exchange rate can be set. Currencies in the basket are weighted according to their importance in a country's trade. If 40 percent of a country's imports and exports are priced in U.S. dollars then the dollar will make up 40 percent of the basket against which that country's currency is valued.
