Intervention Band

The upper and lower limits within which a government or central bank tries to keep its currency exchange rate. If the rate moves outside the band the government and/or the central bank is likely to take action to try to bring it back. This may include raising or lowering official interest rates or buying or selling the currency on foreign exchange markets. Also known as a trading band.
