Year On Year Figure

The figure that results from comparing a data item to its value a year earlier. For example, yearly inflation rates are measured by comparing the value of an index this month to its value a year ago. The yearly rate may differ considerably from the quarter on quarter or month on month rate. Many statisticians and economists prefer to use the year on year figure because it helps eliminate the effect of seasonal patterns.
