Crawling Peg

A system which permits a gradual increase or decrease in the value at which a currency's exchange rate is fixed or pegged to another currency or to a basket of currencies. This allows the exchange rate to adjust to changes in a country's economy, such as changes in inflation or growth rates. Mexico and Hungary operated crawling peg systems in the 1990s which enabled them to slowly devalue their currencies.
