Rolling Settlement

The settlement of securities a certain number of days after the date of trade, rather than on fixed account days. Some exchanges used to allow investors to buy shares and not pay for them until the end of an accounting period. This meant that payment did not have to be made for 10 days or more. With rolling settlement payment always has to be made within a specified period after the trade date.
