Tankan
The Bank of Japan's quarterly survey of companies, which provides a wide range of corporate data. It includes the closely watched diffusion index for major manufacturers, which compares the ratio of those who expect business to improve to those who expect it to worsen. The lower the index the gloomier the outlook. The tankan is an important reference for the central bank in formulating monetary policy.
