Margin Trading

Margin trading is the act of investing in securities using borrowed money, with the securities used as collateral. An investor uses his own money to fund a percentage of a purchase and borrows the remainder from a broker. Margin trading uses gearing to maximise potential profits. But gearing means increased risk. If the market moves against the investor, his losses are greater than they otherwise would have been.
